Whimsical Kitten

Although I had formed strong bonds with some new girlfriends a year or so before, the ‘Kittenhood’ wasn’t formalised as the collective term for us all until 1999, during a girls weekend to Brighton. We stayed in the very top rooms of a bed and breakfast called Strawberry Fields situated near the seafront. During the day we’d shop and during the night we’d party. On the second day following an afternoon of shopping in the Lanes, we happened upon a postcard of five fluffy kittens, two ginger kittens for the (then) two red-heads in our group, two tabby coloured kittens for the brunettes and a small almost white kitten for the blonde – the Kittenhood was born.
