Whimsical Kitten

To all my family and friends both near and far, I hope 2007 brings you all health, wealth and happiness, cheers!

I have just finished the garter stitch and heart square as part of the Art of Knitting magazine shaker style throw project, only another 89 squares to go! 

We went over to see some friends today who are the proud owners of two new kittens, Bumble and Myrtle. Bumble and Myrtle are very naughty kittens and have completely decimated the christmas tree – well it would be rude not to really!

Is the latest offering from Fay Weldon and a subject close to my heart as I become ever gloomier with age. I was immediately sucked in by the statement “nothing, not for more than ten minutes at a time”. I can completely relate to this as I am a serial worrier, just like my mother. 

The book is divided into two parts, part one summarises the alleged sources of female happiness and subjects them to the nature (we are all creatures of the cave) versus nurture (the way we are socialised) argument.  The tensions between the two and the moral imperative are eloquently articulated through modern day parables. In part two Weldon updates the four horsemen of the apocalypse with 21^st Century maladies and again through the use of stories illustrates how you can send them packing. The message is very simple “be happy and you’ll be good, be good and you’ll be happy”. It’s not rocket science and it’s cheaper than therapy! I really enjoyed the book and read it cover to cover in 6 hours. Enjoy.

I have never been that good at keeping a diary and tend to lose interest in things fairly quickly so don’t hold your breath! However, if you do come back I hope that you will enjoy the eclectic ramblings of this whimsical kitten.
